The NEW WORKS PROJECT
Unique to Musical Theatre University, participants have the opportunity to work “hands on” with celebrated and up-and-coming Broadway writers and composers in the development of new material --- from individual songs to complete shows. Selected projects are presented in staged readings, workshops and/or fully produced productions.
Selected students also have the opportunity to attend the exclusive “ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop” in Los Angeles, under the direction of Stephen Schwartz. This is an “industry only” workshop and not open to the general public where four new musicals are presented in staged readings for a panel of industry professionals for critique.
“New Works” projects have included Andrew Lippa’s “A Little Princess”, Stuart Ross’s “Sound of Plaid” and for the 207-18 Season students will workshop "How The Nurse Feels" by MTU's David Green and Bob Marino, which is scheduled for an Off-Broadway debut at the Davenport Theatre in the summer of 2018.
